Internet Millionaire Reacts to Side Hustle Advice on TikTok

Can TikTok actually teach you to make money with a side hustle? In this post, I review the most popular TikToks on how to make money online and give an honest assessment of whether I think they are legit or not.

But first, who am I to be judging these people? Well, I've been making money on the internet since I was 20 (that was 12 years ago!). Last year alone, I sold over 15 million dollars online! Over the past 12 years, I have tried nearly every authentic and legit side hustle there is! My only exceptions are MLMs, day trading, and feet pics — those are all just a little to fishy for me.

Without further ado, lets get into the videos!

1. @ecomsidehustle

In this video, a side hustle called copywriting is mentioned. This is a legit side hustle! It entails writing headlines and descriptions for other company's online product listings. You can write for big businesses, influencers, or even for social media accounts.

In the video, @ecomsidehustle mentions that she makes $250 an hour and that no experience is needed. In reality, there is simply no way that a beginner can land clients that are willing to pay that much. Instead, you will have to build your portfolio through Upwork. You may even have to do a few gigs for free in order to gain some experience.

If you are a good writer and understand grammar, this is a great side hustle to consider. Upwork is a legit site that I’ve recommended many times in the past. It's going to take some time to grow but nevertheless, it is possible.

2. @twinkyhustles

In this video, @twinkyhustles talks about low content publishing. In short, this side hustle is all about creating digital products (notebooks, journals, ebooks, etc.) with free templates online. Then using, print on demand, you can sell those products via Etsy, Shopify, Amazon, etc.  This side hustle is great because you don't have to keep any inventory and it is primarily passive.

Here's the catch — @twinkysidehustles shared the most popular version on Etsy. Creating a journal with the hopes of getting 12,000 sales organically is pretty far-fetched. You will have to create hundreds of designs and simply cross your fingers and hope that one takes off. It takes a lot of work for not a lot of reward.

3. @joshuaerabu

This is a side hustle I have never tried before! The housing market is super hot right now and a 3D tour is a great addition to a listing!

Similar to sales, not every agent you reach out to is going to be interested in the service. In the beginning, you will get used to being turned away until you can build your portfolio and relationships.

As for learning how to take the photos themselves, I’m not sure how hard or easy it is to do! I’d imagine if you use your phone, the quality won't be as good as if you use a 3D camera. However, it is probably just fine to start out with. Overall, this side hustle is really interesting and I kind of like it!

4. @hustlewithshan

This is affiliate marketing! @hustlewithshan is essentially saying to go find an affiliate link, publish it on Pinterest, and hope for the best. Seems easy enough right? Its almost too easy! Just like the journal example from earlier, you would have to post hundreds upon hundreds of these links in order to make any sort of profit.

I will warn you that Pinterest doesn't exactly fancy direct affiliate links. By the time you have 100,000 pinned links, there is nothing stopping Pinterest from finding your account and disabling it!

I'm glad that people are talking about affiliate marketing online, but this is not a great way to get the most out of this side hustle.

5. @thewealthexperience

This video promotes the recording audio for books and getting paid to narrate. The idea is cool but you will get a sore throat from how many hours you will have to do this in order to make a full-time income. Like the other side hustles, this one is all about building your portfolio and relationships. You will also need a nice microphone.

Overall, it's not very realistic but it would be cool to try!

6. @kevindavid

Before watching this video, I was already a little cautious. Kevin david is known for being really aggressive in that he teaches some scammy ways to make money online and some legit ones.

In his video, he mentions how you can watch videos for companies, provide your feedback, and get paid for it. Again, this side hustle is too easy. Anybody can do it! In order to make any decent change, you will be watching videos 8 hours a day. On top of that, you must provide critical feedback that is insightful.

You must prove to companies why you fit their target audience and why they should care about your opinion.  There's more to it than just watching videos!

Those were some of the most popular videos with the #sidehustle on TikTok! What did you think of them? Have you ever seen a really bad side hustle taught on TikTok? Comment what it was! If you have a really good one, I’d love to check it out as well.

Overall, the pursuit of making money on the side is a good one. Just keep an eye out for the scammy and dark side hustles out there — especially the ones that seem too good to be true!
